💀 Mictlāntēcutli 💀
“Lord of Mictlan”, in Aztec mythology, is a deity of the dead and the king of Mictlan, the lowest and northernmost section of the underworld. He is one of the principal gods of the Aztecs and is the most prominent of several gods and goddesses of death and the underworld.

- Xolos were often sacrificed and then buried with their owners to act as guides to the soul on its journey to the underworld.

- Hands & Feet: Made to look like beast’s claws, they are represented in a threatening position to evoke aggression. This theory changes from text to text since he was not evil, or bad per se, sometimes against enemies though.
The worship of Mictlantecuhtli sometimes involved ritual cannibalism, with human flesh being consumed in and around the temple. Other names given to Mictlantecuhtli include Ixpuztec (“Broken Face”), Nextepehua (“Scatterer of Ashes”), and Tzontemoc (“He Who Lowers His Head”).
